Riverside County property owners who have unclaimed property tax refunds may now file for reimbursements.
The filling period, which applies to residential and commercial properties, is scheduled to last through Aug. 2, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Nearly 600 refunds worth more than $540,000 have not been claimed. Most are from valuation reductions by the county assessor, and are related to corrections or cancellations to the tax roll after taxes were paid.
“This is a reminder to all residents to check the Treasurer-Tax Collector website to see if they are due for a refund,” said Treasurer-Tax Collector Matthew Jennings in the statement. “Don’t be caught short by the deadline. Our team is available to help residents through the process.”
After Aug. 2, any unclaimed funds will be transferred into the county’s general fund, which blocks them from being reclaimed.
Filing instructions, and all unclaimed property tax refunds from tax year 2016 and before are available at: http://www.countytreasurer.org/TaxCollector/UnclaimedMoney/PropertyTaxUnclaimedRefund.aspx.
