A plaza in front of Riverside City Hall has been renamed in honor of former Mayor Ron Loveridge.
Ronald O. Loveridge Plaza, which was dedicated during a ceremony on Sept. 9, runs along Main Street between Ninth Street and City Hall, according to a published report.
The plaza’s renaming is marked with a plaque that was paid for with private donations.
Loveridge, who retired in December, held elected office in Riverside from 1979 through last year. He served in various state and national organizations during that time, including National League of Cities and the California Air Resources Board.
During his time in office, Loveridge was also known for championing environmental causes and for trying to make Riverside a “green” city well before most other California cities moved in that direction.
