Riverside offers Spanish translation of council meetings

Riverside has begun translating its city council and council committee meetings into Spanish.

The city’s effort to raise its profile in the Latino community is being undertaken by the Office of Communications, the city clerk’s office and RiversideTV, which broadcasts the meetings, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“Riverside is an inclusive community that puts a high value on transparency,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said in the statement. “These measures will ensure our Spanish-speaking community has full access to our city council meetings.”

Council minutes and council meeting agendas in English and Spanish are available here. A city council meeting translated into Spanish, with Spanish closed captioning, can be found here.

Listening devices will be available for anyone who attends a council meeting and who wants to hear the council deliberations in Spanish. Interpreters will help anyone who wants to address the council in Spanish, either in person or by phone, according to the statement.
