Riverside Students Excel in Business Competition

Students from Riverside Poly High School won first place in Riverside’s inaugural Mayor’s Entrepreneurial Challenge.

Nearly 100 students participated in the recent three-day event, which was sponsored by the Advancement Academy and hosted by SolarMax Technology in Riverside, according to a statement.

Participants were required to elect a chief executive officer, establish a business plan, make quarterly financial decisions and adjust to changes made by their competitors and within their industries.

The financial decisions were based on financial statements from previous quarters, according to the statement.

Ramona High School and Hillcrest High School finished second and third respectively.

“This event called on some of our brightest young people to really demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset and solid business sense,” Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement. “Their work in such a challenging environment makes me think we’ll be hearing from them again when the business ventures they create begin generating jobs in our community.”

The Advancement Academy is a non-profit organization that educates students about business, financial literacy and entrepreneurship, according to the statement.
