Riverside to invest heavily in its parks

Riverside will spend $23 million upgrading its parks and recreation facilities during the current fiscal year.

The city council recently agreed to spend another $3 million on several recreational projects, bringing the city’s current investment in that department to $23 million, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Projects include new playground equipment citywide and upgrades to the lake and golf course at Fairmount Park, the 250-acre facility at 2601 Fairmount Blvd. that is one of Riverside’s most popular recreation destinations.

The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department will buy new equipment for Bergamont, Castleview, Collett, Dario Vasquez, Harrison, Hunt, Nichols, Taft, and Thundersky parks.

Work is expected to be finished in the spring and summer of next year. Riverside has 60 parks that combined cover almost 3,000 acres, according to the statement.
