Three Riverside City Council members will spend 13 months studying how artificial intelligence might impact and improve city operations.
Steven Robillard, Philip Falcone and Steve Hemenway will make up the City Council Working Group on Artificial Intelligence Strategy and Policy, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The group is expected to meet once a month. Its first meeting date has not been announced.
“Artificial Intelligence is going to change the way we work, the way businesses operate and the way cities provide services,” said Robillard, who suggested forming the group, in the statement. “I don’t think Riverside should wait for those changes to happen to us. We should be intentional in how we prepare for them.”
The group will address several issues involving AI, including applying the technology to workforce and economic development, using it to attract businesses and promote innovation, and making sure data belonging to the city and its residents is protected, according to the statement.
