Riverside to take part in LEED program

Riverside is one of 16 cities nationwide chosen to participate in the 2025 LEED for Cities Cohort, a program led by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The building council, a leading authority on greenhouse building worldwide, conducts the Cities Cohort as part of its Local Government Leadership Program, according to a statement on Riverside’s website.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building certification program developed by the by the building council. Local governments set goals, collect data, and compare their green building performance against sustainability and quality of life metrics in the LEED for Cities rating system.

“Riverside’s focus on sustainability and quality of life is now being recognized on the national stage,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said in the statement. “We are fortunate to have a city that can be a model for other cities’ sustainability efforts.”

The building council’s leadership program has helped nearly 120 U.S. local governments that combined represent 55 million people, according to the statement.
