Roth receives Riverside award

Former State Senator Richard D. Roth has received Riverside’s 2024 City Spirit Award.

Roth, who represented western Riverside County for 12 years before retiring last year, was recognized during the June 24 council meeting, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The award is given to Riverside residents who display good citizenship, perform noteworthy deeds on behalf of the city, and improve Riverside’s quality of life.

“Gen. Roth has been a force for good in Riverside for many decades, so I am very happy to see him recognized for his extraordinary service to our city,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said. “His devotion to our community, and his intelligence, have made him one of the most effective leaders I’ve ever known.”

A Democrat, Roth spent 32 years in the Air Force before retiring as a major general.

During his 12 years in Sacramento, Roth worked to strengthen workforce development and voted to increase investment in higher education. He introduced 36 bills during his final year in office, 19 of which became law, according to the statement.
