RTA offers major summer discount program

The Riverside Transit Agency is offering 25-cent rides during the summer to help people cope with high gas prices.

The program, which will start June 11 and last through Aug. 31, applies to all fixed-route and GoMicro buses, according to a statement released by the agency.

Two payment methods are available: pay by cash when boarding, or use the GoMobile app to purchase a 10-ride pack for just $2.50.

The agency will provide free rides for youth aged 18 and younger with a valid ID through June 30, 2027. Also, college students from participating U-Pass/Go-Pass programs may ride for free.

Use of public transportation typically goes up when gas prices rise, according to the statement.

Using public transit also makes a positive environmental impact by reducing the number of vehicles on the road. One full transit bus can replace up to 40 passenger cars on the road, significantly reducing traffic congestion and carbon dioxide emissions. RTA operates compressed natural gas buses and has invested in hydrogen buses that will arrive this year, reinforcing its commitment to cleaner air.
