San Bernardino awarded federal bridge grant

San Bernardino has received a $667,000 federal grant that it will use to restore 11 bridges on major transportation corridors in the city.

San Bernardino was one of only five government entities in California to receive one of the grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The grant was part of $26.5 million given out nationwide and administered by the Federal Highway Administration, which is part of the transportation department.

“The grants … will provide much-needed resources to communities nationwide so they can complete the plans and studies required to move forward with important bridge projects,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a statement.

So far, the highway administration has given out $7.4 billion in funding for 78 projects in 38 states, according to the statement.
