San Bernardino park to get overhaul

San Bernardino has approved a $13.8 million renovation of Secombe Lake Park, the second-largest park in the city.

Improvements to the 44-acre park at 160 E. 5th St. will include restoration of its lake and gazebo, new landscaping and irrigation, upgraded restrooms and basketball courts, new lighting and concrete walking paths, and better playground equipment, according to a statement on the city’s website.

“The planning and funding of the improvements at Seccombe Lake Park have been several years in the making,” said San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran in the statement. “We are excited that the Park’s transformation is about to begin.”

Funding for the project includes revenue from the American Rescue Plan Act and $1 million from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, which the tribe contributed in 2022.

The renovation plans were prepared by RHA Landscape Architects in Riverside.  Work is expected start during the first quarter of 2025 and take about one year to complete, according to the statement.
