San Bernardino issued 736 building permits in August, far more than in any recent month.
Those permits, issued by the city’s building and safety division, were worth an estimated $26 million, according to a statement on the city’s website.
“Activity has been picking up all year,” said Nathan Freeman, director of community, housing, and economic development, in the statement. “But these past few months, especially August, have seen big increases in activity.”
Before this year, no more than 450 permits were issued during any month in the previous five years. In 2022, San Bernardino has surpassed that number in February, March, June, July, and August.
Total value of the building permits issued during the first eight months of this year has surpassed the value of all of the permits issued in 2021 by $29 million.
Recently permitted projects include a 50-room Best Western Hotel on Redlands Boulevard, a Starbucks Coffee on 5th Street, a 10,000 square foot convenience store on North E Street and a Rally’s Restaurant on East 40th Street, according to the statement.
