Michael Sequeira, M.D., has been appointed San Bernardino County’s public health officer.
An expert in emergency medicine, Sequeira was named to the position recently by the board of supervisors, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Sequeira has spent 30 years at the local, state, and national levels of medicine, including stints as regional director of six hospital emergency departments. He is also a past president of the San Bernardino County Medical Society and a member of the steering committee of the Inland Empire Opioid Crisis Coalition.
Segueira was hired following a nationwide recruitment that lasted two-and-half months.
“We are pleased to have a medical professional of Dr. Sequeira’s expertise and background work for San Bernardino County,” Board Chairman Curt Hagman said in the statement. “We look forward to his leadership and counsel as we navigate our way out of this COVID-19 pandemic.”
