SB County to conduct homeless count

San Bernardino County will hold its annual count of homeless people later this month.

The Point-in-Time-Count, which is conducted by the San Bernardino Office of Homeless Services and the San Bernardino County Homeless Partnership, is scheduled to be held from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 24, according to a statement.

The goal is to determine roughly how many homeless people and families live in the county on a given day and what might be done to help them.

All 24 cities and towns and the county’s unincorporated territories will be covered by volunteers, which will include members of the public and community groups, county employees, homeless service providers, and private-sector stakeholders.

Wherever possible, volunteers will ask questions, offer hygiene kits and provide contact information for homeless services.

For the first time, the count will be conducted via a web app, so volunteers will need their own smart phone, either Apple or Android, to participate. For more information, or to register as a volunteer, visit www.sbcounty.gov/dbh/sbchp
