SB County to Hold Job Fair

San Bernardino County’s Workforce Development Board is scheduled to hold its annual Valley Regional Job Fair Wednesday at Ontario International Airport.

The event, which is being co-sponsored by several cities and chambers of commerce on the Inland Empire’s west side, will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Terminal One, 1940 Moore Way, according to a development board statement.

About 70 businesses have agreed to participate, and another 10 or so are expected to be added by Monday, the last day of registration, said Jenny De La Mora, business services representative with the county.

Ten staffing agencies, the maximum allowed, are among the businesses that have signed up, De La Mora said.

How many job seekers will attend the fair is difficult to predict.

“When we started a few years ago we got 800 to 1,000, but last year we only got about 400,” De La Mora said, of the job fair, which emphasizes job placement in logistics, transportation, health care and manufacturing but is open to any business that wants to participate. “I really can’t explain the drop off.”

Occasionally people are hired on site, but mostly the job fair is for making contact and scheduling an interview if both parties are interested, De La Mora said.

Admission is free. Businesses may register by calling 1 (800) 451-JOBS or by visiting http://conta.cc/291QZtV.
