Martin Serna has been named chief of the San Bernardino County Fire Department’s east valley division.
Serna joined the department last month after spending 29 years with the Torrance Fire Department, according to a statement on the county’s website.
He replaces Dan Mejia, who is retiring.
“I am humbled to be a part of such a diverse and dynamic fire department,” Serna said in the statement. “I look forward to using my skills and experience in strengthening our partnership with the communities we serve.”
Serna, who was Torrance’s fire chief during his last six years there, is president of the South Bay Police and Fire Memorial Foundation.
This east valley division – Division 2 – includes areas where wildlands and urban areas are next to each other, including the southern base of the San Bernardino Mountains, according to the statement.
