Palm Springs celebrated the opening of the Homeless Navigation Center’s Early Entry facility with an open-house and ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.
The event, held at 3589 McCarthy Road featured remarks from Palm Springs Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein and city council members according to a statement on the city’s website.
Rose Verduzco, chief operating officer of Martha’s Village and Kitchen will operate the facility.
The Early Entry facility houses up to 50 residents who are waiting to be placed in independent modular units when they become available. Only people referred by the Palms Springs Access Center will be eligible to use the center.
The full navigation center is expected to open this summer. It will have 80 prefabricated residential interim units and two rehabilitated buildings, according to the statement.
I don’t think it’s very fare to other homeless people that have a place that have already paid the necessary fees to hold their place but they are waiting to hear from those who manage those places about their background check and so on. Those who have to deal with the wait are still having to be homeless. It’s favoritism when only those who are with the access center are the ones who can get a bed with the navigation center.
