California added 15,000 non-agricultural jobs in December, compared with a revised 9,600 jobs added in November, the state Employment Development Department reported.
Seven of California’s 11 industry sectors gained jobs during December, with leisure and hospitality (+7,500) the highest-gaining industry group, the EDD reported.
The state’s unemployment rate went up 0.4 percent year-over-year. California has gained 3,195,900 jobs since April 2020, averaging 57,070 jobs per month.
The Inland Empire recorded a 4.9 percent unemployment rate in December, down from a revised 5.4 percent the previous month, according to a report.
Non-agricultural employment in Riverside and San Bernardino counties dropped from 1,742,200 to 1,741,300, a decline of 900 jobs. Agricultural employment decreased by 400 jobs.
Trade, transportation, and utilities (+1,600) recorded the largest increase, with most of the gain in retail trade (+ 800) and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (+700), the EDD reported.
