Riverside has received a $4.4 million state grant it will use to create jobs for local youth.
The Riverside Youth Job Corps was introduced May 3 by Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson at news conference at the Bourns Youth Innovation Center, according to a statement.
Accompanied by U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo and California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday, Dawson spoke of how the program will allow 150 Riverside residents ages 16 to 30 pursue careers.
Possible job paths include addressing food shortages, climate change or recovering from COVID-19.
“Opportunities that equip young people with the tools necessary to succeed in the workplace have become all too rare” Lock Dawson said in a statement posted on Riverside’s website after the event. “The CaliforniansForAllYouth Jobs Corps will ensure our young Riversiders do not miss these opportunities to reach their full potential.
Riverside Youth Jobs Corps Is part of CaliforniansForAll Youth Jobs Corps, a $185 million program launched in January by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
