California added 63,100 non-agricultural jobs during August, a solid number but not enough to change the state’s unemployment rate, which remained at 5.5 percent.
The state has added more than 2.3 million jobs since the recession officially ended in February 2010, the Employment Development Department stated in its monthly jobs report, which was released Friday.
California’s unemployment rate in August 2015 was 6 percent.
Government added nearly 30,000 jobs last month, mostly at the local level. Professional and business services added 14,400 jobs while trade, transportation and utilities added 10,300 jobs.
Those were the only sectors that added at least 10,000 jobs last month.
Manufacturing posted the biggest loss of jobs during August, dropping 3,400 jobs during the time, the department reported.
Locally, Riverside County’s unemployment rate last month was 6.9 percent, essentially unchanged year-over-year, while San Bernardino County recorded a 6.2 percent jobless rate, down from an unadjusted 6.5 percent year-over-year.
Between July and August, the Inland Empire added 10,800 non-agricultural jobs, with government, trade, transportation and utilities, construction and professional and business services all posting gains, according to the report.
