Stater Bros. is making its first move into Ventura County.
The San Bernardino-based supermarket chain will open a store in Simi Valley on property once owned by the Haggen company, according to a statement released Thursday.
Construction on the full-service store at 660 E. Los Angeles Ave. will begin in several months. The store is scheduled to open next year.
Stater Bros. decided to locate in Simi Valley after receiving requests from residents asking the company to set up a store in their city, President and Chief Operating Officer Pete Van Helden said in the statement.
“It’s great to be welcomed,” Van Helden said. “We’re excited for the opportunity to establish roots in a new county and acquaint Simi Valley shoppers with Stater Bros.’ well-known service and low prices.”
Stater Bros. currently operates 168 stores in Southern California and employs more than 18,000 people. It is the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California and the largest private employer in the Inland Empire.
