Stater Bros. has started its annual effort to help local food banks during the holiday season.
Checkstand clerks at Stater Bros,’ 172 supermarkets began collecting donations Sunday and will continue collections through Dec. 31, according to a recent statement by Stater. Bros. Charities.
Customers and employees may donate coins, fill out a $5 donation card while in line or scan the QR code. Larger donations are being accepted by texting to STATER at 41444.
Stater Bros. officials hope that COVID-19 will prompt people to be a little more generous than usual this year.
“It has been a challenging year, given the pandemic and the impact it’s had on the health and well-being of our communities,” said Nancy Negrette, chairman, and president of Stater Bros. Charities, in the statement. “The pandemic has reminded us that we could all use a little help from time to time. That’s why it’s crucial we take action and raise funds to help our neighbors cope during this crisis.”
Besides providing food, money raised will help families pay bills and meet other needs.
Local participating food banks are Feeding America Riverside-San Bernardino Counties, Inland Harvest Food Bank, FIND Food Bank in Indio, and the Salvation Army, according to the statement.
