Stater Bros. recognized

For the second consecutive year, Stater Bros. has been ranked the top full-service supermarket chain in Southern California by a leading national consumer magazine.

The San Bernardino-based chain was also ranked 10th nationally by Consumer Reports, according to a Stater Bros. statement.

“I’m so proud of the 18,000 members of the Stater Bros. family of employees for bringing this high honor to our valued customers,” said Jack H. Brown, the company’s chairman and chief executive, in the statement released Monday. “We will all work hard every day to continue to earn the privilege of serving you, your family, friends and neighbors.”

The ratings were based on a survey of 62,000 subscribers to Consumer Reports magazine. Nearly 70 supermarket chains, warehouse stores and limited assortment stores were involved.

Consumer Reports is published monthly by the non-profit Consumers Union. The magazine reviews and compares consumer products based largely on its own research.

Stater Bros. was founded in Yucaipa in 1936. It’s the largest private employer based in the Inland Empire, with 168 stores and nearly 20,000 employees, according to the statement.
