A record 200.5 million people will watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49’ers do battle in Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to the National Retail Federation in Washington, D.C.
About 112 million people will host or attend a Super Bowl party, and another 16 million say they plan to watch America’s most popular one-day sporting event at a bar or restaurant, the trade association reported.
Total spending on food, drinks, clothing, decorations and other items is expected to reach $17.3 billion, or $86.04 per person.
The federation has been conducting its yearly Super Bowl survey for more than 10 years. The 2024 survey of 8,329 adults 18 and older was conducted between January 2-8, according to statement on the federation’s website.
