Talk radio program has a new home

One of the most popular Inland Empire-based talk radio programs is moving to a new time and station.

Starting today The Lou Desmond and Company Show will be heard live from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on KKDD-AM (1290), according to a statement.

The move, which was announced last week, is part of a shift in programming between two local stations: all of the programming on Riverside-based KFNY-AM (1440) has moved to KKDD in San Bernardino which has a larger signal.

KKDD is now IE Newstalk radio.

Conversely, KKDD’s Spanish-language format has shifted to KFNY’s former dial location.

“It’s a bigger signal, which means we’ll have an opportunity to reach a bigger audience,” Desmond said. “We may lose a few people, but radio listeners tend to be loyal. If they like Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck, or if they like my show, they’ll find us.”

Desmond, a staunch conservative in the mold of Fox News, broadcasts from a station at Toyota of San Bernardino near Interstate 215 that was built by Cliff Cummings, owner of that automobile agency.

Desmond typically interviews local journalists, politicians, economists and members of the Inland Empire business community.

Cummings endorsed the programming swap between the two stations.

“The residents in this region deserve to have their voices heard and to have the issues that affect them the most reflected in local news programming,” Cummings said in the statement. “It doesn’t hurt that I also love to interact with them on the air.”
