Pomona voters this fall will decide whether to approve a tax that would benefit the city’s library.
The $42 parcel tax would generate $1.3 million a year for operations at the Pomona Public Library, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
On Monday, the city council voted unanimously to place the measure on the Nov. 4 ballot. Two days later, members of Save our Pomona Library, a local activist group, met to start a campaign in support of the measure, according to the report.
The tax would last 10 years. Funds would be collected starting next July 1.
Earlier this year, members of the library preservation group proposed the parcel tax to the library’s board of trustees. The board recommended to the council that it place the measure on the city ballot, according to the report.
