Topgolf coming to Ontario

Ontario, with the help of San Bernardino County, will be the first Southern California city to feature Topgolf, a high-tech game in which points are scored by hitting micro-chipped golf balls at a target similar to a large dartboard.

County and Topgolf officials entered into a 20-year lease agreement two years ago, but that transaction was delayed by COVID-19, according to a statement on the county’s website.

However, the agreement is set to move forward, with construction expected start this month and be completed early next year. The project will be built on 13.7 acres of undeveloped county-owned land in Ontario, next to Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park at Archibald Avenue and Fourth Street.

“Topgolf chose the County of San Bernardino due to its convenient regional location to the Inland Empire, strong retail performance, and large and growing population base,” said Chris Callaway, Chief Development Officer with Topgolf.  “Being positioned just north of I-10 and west of I-15 enables our Topgolf venue to connect with and entertain many communities and businesses throughout the region.”

The 600,000-square-foot facility will have 102 hitting bays on three floors. It will include a full-service restaurant and bar and space for corporate and social gatherings.

Topgolf is expected to generate about $625,000 a year to help support the county’s regional parks according to the statement.
