Torres announces relief funding for IE students

Rep. Norma Torres, D- Ontario, has announced that more than $184.5 million from the U.S. Department of Education will benefit residents of her district as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. 

The grant includes more than $43.5 million for institutions of higher learning, and more than $140 million for constituents attending commuting schools, according to a statement.

Each institution is allowed to use part of the funding to pay for financial losses stemming from the current economic downturn, but at least half of the money must go to students in the form of emergency cash grants to help pay for housing, food, and other essentials.

Torres represents the 35th district, which includes Chino, Fontana, Ontario, Montclair and Pomona,
