Rep. Norma Torres, D-Ontario, is co-sponsoring a bill that would make the first Friday of October Manufacturing Day.
The day of recognition – which falls on October 6th this year – will acknowledge the importance of manufacturing to the United States and regions like the Inland Empire, according to a statement released by Torres’ office.
Rep. Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee is the bill’s other sponsor.
Manufacturers employ nearly 13 million people nationwide, according to the statement.
“I’m proud to represent almost 35,000 hardworking Americans who are employed by manufacturers in California’s 35th Congressional District, and the goods we produce in the Inland Empire are used across the globe,” Torres said in the statement. “Manufacturing is critical to the economic prosperity of our community, state, and the rest of the United States.
