The inaugural Apple Valley Village Street Fair is scheduled to be held this month.
The event, which is being sponsored by about 300 town businesses, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16 along a stretch of Pawnee Road downtown, said Kenneth Sousa, event assistant with the Town of Apple Valley.
About 20 vendors have signed up so far, and another 10 or so are expected to secure space by Friday, the deadline to apply, Sousa said.
“We’re getting a good mix of vendors, from food to arts and crafts, some nonprofits and a dental booth,” Sousa said. “We’d like to get a few more arts and crafts booths because we have a lot of that [in the High Desert] and it’s a little underrepresented right now. But we’re still getting a good turnout.”
The street fair, which will also feature live music, classic cars and lots of food, will take place on Pawnee Road between Outer Highway 18 and Powhatan Road.
Admission and parking is free, and parking will be available at the James Woody Community Center at 13467 Navajo Road and on some streets near the event. For safety reasons, parking will not be available on Pawnee and Powhatan roads south of Highway 18 on the day of the event, according to a stamen on the town’s website.
If the street fair goes well it could become an annual event.
“It’s something we’re going to look at,” Sousa said. “We want to do this every year, maybe even more often than that.”
The street fair’s sponsors are part of a property-based business improvement district, in which business owners pay a self-imposed tax that is used to make a city’s business district more attractive and business-friendly.
Vendor applications are available at applevalleyvillage.com or at the Town of Apple Valley Development Services Building, 14955 Dale Evans Parkway, during regular business hours, according to the statement.
