Children’s Fund, a nonprofit that serves underprivileged children in San Bernardino County, posted record numbers during its most recent toy drive.
The agency’s 29th annual Celebration of Giving campaign gathered nearly 33,000 gifts that were distributed during the holiday season, according to a statement on the organization’s website.
That was the charitable organization’s largest number ever and nearly 3,000 more toys than it collected in 2016, according to a statement on its website.
Children’s Fund spent about $40,000 on this year’s toy drive. It worked with multiple volunteers and community organizations, including the county fire department and the Highlander Boxing Club, to collect and distribute the gifts.
Children 12-18 years old were given gift cards.
“Many children in our community go without a gift during the holiday season,” said Ciriaco “Cid” Pinedo, president and chief executive officer of the Children’s Fund, in the statement. “With the vital support of our donors we ensured they were not forgotten.”
