Trailers help homeless people in COVID-19 crisis

Riverside has been given 15 trailers from the state Department of Emergency Services that it’s using to help homeless people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trailers at Riverside Airport are available to homeless people who are showing symptoms of the viral disease but who are able to care for themselves, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Each trailer has a bathroom, shower, toilet, small kitchenette with stove, refrigerator, microwave, couch and dinette.

By separating homeless people with symptoms from non-symptomatic homeless people, city officials hope to help slow the spread of the disease.

CityNet, a non-profit agency that works with homeless people, is overseeing the operation, which will remain in place until the crisis is over, according to the statement.
