The Riverside University Health System-Medical Center has been designated a level one trauma center by the Riverside County Emergency Medical Services Agency.
Level one, the highest designation, allows the facility to treat the most critically injured patients, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Severely-injured patients taken to the medical center will be treated by a board-certified trauma surgeon and a team of doctors from the emergency room, operating room, intensive care, radiology and rehabilitation services.
“This achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our health care team, surgeons of all specialties, and our leadership team,” said Dr. Raul Coimbra, the health system’s chief surgeon, in the statement. “Our entire team worked together to achieve one common goal – to provide the very best care to the residents of Riverside County.”
The medical services agency makes certain that county hospitals meet the trauma center requirements established in the California Health and Safety Code.
