Trio of Inland universities ranked among country’s best

Three Inland Empire universities have been named among the top 500 institutions of higher learning in the United States by Forbes magazine.

UC Riverside (97) University of Redlands (279) and Cal State San Bernardino (425) made the list, which is made up of public and private institutions. It was published Aug. 27 on the publication’s website.

America’s Top Colleges is based on average alumni salary (20 percent), student loan debt (15 percent) graduation rate (15 percent), the Forbes American Leaders List (15 percent) return on Investment (15 percent) retention rate (10 percent) and academic success (10 percent).

All forms of colleges and universities make up the list: doctoral research, master’s and bachelor’s degree colleges, and institutions that offer special programs in engineering, business and art are all represented categories.

Most of the information used to make up the list came from U.S. government data bases. Schools that are planning to close, or that have fewer than 300 undergraduates, were not considered.

Princeton, Stanford, MIT, Yale and the University of California-Berkeley made up the top five.
