Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday Morning at 9:30 on AM590

Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!

This week, Ed begins by pointing out Friday’s “encouraging” news that the economy is growing. In its first estimate a month ago, the government reported that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew at a scant 0.2% rate in the first quarter of 2015. But this week it sang a very different tune, saying that the economy actually shrank in the same quarter for a second straight year. The bottom line, Ed says, is that, “The government lies to you to make things sound better, and then the truth comes out.” He references the stock market, saying, “They stock market isn’t being driven by tremendous profits; it’s being driven by emotion,” and then explains what that means for average Americans. Tune in this week to find out!

Next, Ed uses thought-provoking clips from one of his favorite movies, the 2014 film “Draft Day.” Ed uses dialogue from the film to illustrate some timely principles that can help people make better decisions in their consumer habits, the relationships in their lives and even their voting patterns. Pointing out the way people nitpick the pros and cons of each possible presidential candidate, Ed says, “Everybody’s got something. We’ve got to start looking at character, and that’s what this movie is about. It’s character that we need to teach our kids, and character that we need to look at when we bring our next President in.” He states that the words of Martin Luther King about “content of character” should be on our minds in the ballot box. It’s an inspiring first half of the show this week, and you don’t want to miss it!

Next, Ed analyzes the overcrowded Republican presidential field, which is now up to an overwhelming 17 potential candidates. Ed delivers analysis that is both entertaining and insightful; if you think it’s ridiculous that former New York Governor George Pataki (a man who has not been in politics since 2006!) has added his name to the list by declaring his candidacy – well, you need to listen to The Main Event this week. Ed also comments on the candidacy of former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum; find out why this staunch conservative literally makes Ed yawn on the air! After hearing Santorum’s announcement to a cheering crowd, Ed asks, “Where did he get all those people?” and “Where has he been since the last election? Nobody’s even seen him.” Like many Republicans, Ed believes Santorum doesn’t stand a chance; he will also argue that Senator Marco Rubio, a declared candidate, is under attack for mainstream Christian comments he made this week. How can anyone to the right of him expect to do any better?

Next, it’s on to discussing the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision to block President Obama’s executive action on immigration, some fascinating historical knowledge, and a truly inspiring clip in honor of veterans featuring narration by Steven Spielberg. This week’s show is jam packed!
