Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market. Ed delivers intelligent radio with unique, witty and irreverent flair.
This week, Ed begins the show by addressing the cheating scandal in Little League, which involves the Chicago team having their first place title revoked after they were caught cheating. Ed plays audio of activist Jesse Jackson criticizing the league’s decision as a racial move, which resulted in the team being subsequently invited to the White House. “Racism is alive and well in this country, and it’s not because of anybody but the guy at the top of the food chain,” Ed says.
Ed and his guest, Scott McAfee, will pick up where they left off when it comes to the dissection of the possible 2016 GOP presidential candidates. As the primary sponsor of the Unite IE Conservative Conference at the Fox Theater in Riverside this week (where three possible contenders will be speaking), Ed has a lot to say about each one:
- Marco Rubio: He’s a popular guy from Florida who Ed believes is “too green.” Tune in to find out what that means!
- Ted Cruz: Ed likes that he’s so conservative, but also feels that he is too new on the scene for a presidential bid. “I’ll vote for him if he’s our candidate, but he’s too new of a senator,” Ed says.
- Carly Fiorina: Ed describes her as dynamic and tough. “I’ve heard her speak a few times and I think she’s awesome. I know she has a history at Hewlett-Packard, though, and I think that’s going to come out and can be used against her.” Fiorina will open the Unite IE Conservative Conference this weekend; if you want to hear about her ideas, be sure to arrive early.
- Bobby Jindal: “I don’t know enough to be pro or con,” Ed says, “but we also don’t know if he’s going to run or not, and I’m looking forward to hearing him speak at the conference tomorrow.” Governor Jindal closes out the conference in the afternoon.
- Jeb Bush: “What concerns me is his position on Common Core,” Ed says, “but I’ve heard some things recently that have made me feel better.” The new information Ed refers to is on school vouchers; tune in this week to find out what it is.
- Rand Paul: Like Jeb Bush, Ed says, “There’s something about his last name” that may preclude Rand Paul from being a viable presidential candidate. Ed also has real concerns about Paul’s immigration positions, and Scott echoes that Paul’s libertarian leanings can be hard to stomach.
- Ben Carson: I love everything about Ben Carson, including his inability to sugar coat anything,” Ed says. “Ben Carson will say what’s on his mind.” He cites Carson’s lack of political experience as a possible asset, rather than a liability. “He performed brain surgery on babies,” Ed says. “I don’t think there’s any question that he’s intelligent.”
- Scott Walker: “I love him!” Enough said.
- Rick Perry: “He is very qualified,” Ed says. “I’ve met him before, and he’s one of the strongest in the lineup.” Ed acknowledges that Perry’s 2012 campaign contained some real mistakes, but he urges everyone to attend the Unite IE Conservative Conference to hear the real Rick Perry. “If you go back and listen to my shows over the past several years, I’m sure you’ll find a few mistakes,” Ed says. “I think people need to hear him again.”
When pressed by Scott to select which candidate is his personal favorite, Ed says unequivocally, “Rick Perry.” If you don’t attend the Unite IE Conservative Conference this week, you’ll miss out on Ed’s personal pick for President – so be sure to attend!
