Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed begins the show by stating that many people are asking him about stocks in light of the major dip in the market over the past week. While looking at his stock market “ticker,” Ed calculates that in the past three months, people who had $200,000 in a 401(k) lost almost $40,000. “What’s causing this stuff?” Ed says. “Employment isn’t strong enough to support a big economic comeback, and the GDP isn’t strong enough.” He continues, “What’s driving this? Today, everybody’s day trading on their computer and it goes so fast.” So, what’s wrong with this way of moving money around? Tune in to The Main Event this week to find out.
Next, it’s on to national politics. Fueling more rumors that he plans to challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic party’s nomination, Vice President Joe Biden held closed door meetings with President Obama and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren this week. Although Clinton’s campaign is said to be “closely tracking” Biden’s activities, she had nothing but warm fuzzies to say when asked about him. “Phony, phony, phony,” Ed says. “She should say, ‘Now, let me tell you how messed up his life has been and why he shouldn’t be President,’ because that’s what she seemed to be saying.” If you haven’t yet heard Ms. Clinton’s strange gushing over Biden and you want a humorous take on it, tune in to The Main Event this week. You’ll also hear a hilarious clip from the Will Ferrell movie “The Campaign” that parallels what’s happening in the Clinton campaign right now.
Meanwhile, the Black Lives Matter crowd is protesting the shooting of another criminal in the Ferguson area while ignoring a black-on-black crime that killed an innocent 9-year-old girl – and one member of the community has had enough of this hypocrisy. Peggy Hubbard, an African-American mother who has lived in Ferguson all her life, made a video about her feelings on the matter and it has gone viral. If you haven’t heard it yet, Ed will play highlights from it that will make you swell with affection for the strong, bold and articulate Ms. Hubbard. You don’t want to miss it!
Of course, Ed will address the tragic murder of two Roanoke, Virginia journalists at the hands of their disgruntled ex-colleague – someone who had a long track record of lodging unfounded discrimination complaints when he worked at the news station. Predictably, many people are blaming the gun instead of the mentally ill person who shot it, including Hillary Clinton and White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest. Ed has plenty to say about that. “If you outlaw guns, the only people with guns are going to be the outlaws,” Ed says. “The majority of gun violence would be harder to commit if everyone was carrying guns.”
It’s been another interesting week for Donald Trump – this time, at a press conference where he was confronted by Univision anchor Jorge Ramos. Ed will recap that, in addition to a soundbite that’s getting Trump lots of attention: the so-called “silent majority” comment. If you aren’t sure what Trump means by that, tune in to The Main Event to find out – and prepare to be enlightened! And if you haven’t yet purchased your tickets for the GOP Debate Review at the Riverside Convention Center on September 17 featuring Dennis Prager and Larry Elder and sponsored by Ed’s company Wholesale Capital Corporation, be sure to do that now; they’re selling quickly!
