Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed welcomes Joey Jones back to the show. Joey is coming off of a tough week after his tweet to San Francisco 49s quarterback Colin Kaepernick was too patriotic for some liberal Twitter users to handle. As most listeners know, Kaepernick refused to stand during the National Anthem before an August 26th pre-season game against the Green Bay Packers and the controversial move has been analyzed in the media all week.
On Monday, Joey’s tweet – “I don’t have legs but I’ll stand with enough pride for both of us every time my National Anthem plays” – inspired dozens of liberals to fire off hateful replies, many of which directly attacked his amputee status as a wounded veteran. “These things are a far cry from being right about the issue,” Joey said. “Most of them were calling me Lieutenant Dan, or saying that they hope my legs rust…we’re not going to get anywhere by trying to poke other people in the eyeball.”
Joey also points out some positive outcomes. “My tweet got 50,000 retweets, and some people started the hashtag #VeteransForKaepernick. So now, there are multiple intelligent conversations going on – not just the morons in the basement who were tweeting me.” He also mentions that he would love to meet with Kaepernick. “Let’s hope he reaches out to the people who are on the right side of this issue,” he concludes.
“I’m in awe that you are such a forgiving guy with some of the tweets that you got,” Ed says. “I just want to clobber them, as offensive as they are.” As the first half winds down, they address Secretary of State John Kerry’s comment this week that the media should cover terrorism less, “People wouldn’t know what’s going on.” If you haven’t heard this yet, tune in to The Main Event this week!
In the second half, Ed and Joey are talking presidential politics and that includes the latest chapter in Hillary Clinton’s FBI investigation. Next, we’re talking about Donald Trump’s big immigration push on Wednesday. It started when Trump met with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto, delivering a joint press conference from Mexico City. To the surprise of many, the two seemed mutually impressed with each other. “I think it was a great move,” Joey says. “Posture-wise, it was very effective.” As a “never-Trumper,” Joey often disagrees with Ed on Donald Trump – and while they find common ground about him on this week’s show, there is still some stimulating debate that is sure to get the audience thinking. Plus, Ed plays a scene from the comedic John Travolta movie “Michael” as a way to make a point on Trump and immigration. Tune in to join the fun!
