Tune in to The Main Event

Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM 590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market with unique, witty and irreverent flair.

This week Ed’s message to people is to stop using the race card when they don’t have the answers to pointed questions, and to take accountability for their actions. The race card was used numerous times in the media this past week and Ed shows his disdain toward those who continue to claim racism in light of difficult or unfavorable situations.

Lois Lerner:
The House Oversight Committee voted Thursday to hold former IRS subpotentate Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress, while the House Ways and Means Committee has referred her case to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution. If you were unaware, Lerner led the IRS department charged with approving 501(c) 3 and 501(c) 4 non-profits who seemed to be targeting companies reflecting Republican conservatism in their names and withholding their approvals.

Lerner, after claimed no wrong doing, pled the 5th Amendment right to not incriminate herself and thus charged with contempt. Ed uses her as an example of someone who doesn’t take any accountability for her actions.

Attorney General Eric Holder:
Holder was on the stand regarding Fast & Furious operation that went awry when the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agency gave almost 20,000 illegal firearms to Mexican cartels in hopes to track the guns and discover the cartel’s leader. The tracking devices were not placed on the guns.

Several hundreds of Mexicans, including an American agent, were killed and Holder has not yet provided all the materials requested for the investigation. He testified before a House panel on Tuesday and engages heatedly with Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and Ed blasts Holder of being above the law and using the race card as he describes that he and the Obama administration have been the objects of “unprecedented, unwarranted, ugly and divisive” attacks by Congress.

Hank Aaron:
Ed rips baseball legend Hank Aaron, 80, who told USA Today that racism is still rampant in this country and that instead of hoods, the racists wear neckties and starched shirts.

George Foreman:
Ed uses an interview Foreman had following his last bout as an example of a class act. Foreman, though he lost the fight, didn’t dwell on it, instead said his contender has had a rough life and if the victory would help him then Foreman’s happy he lost to him.

In perpetuating racism and not taking accountability for one’s actions, we are crippling our kids, Ed contends, and offers his advice for what kids should be instilled with and what types of examples adults should be to them.

Conclusion:
Ed concludes with airing his disagreement about our supposedly healthy economy, and how the U.S. has the most oil reserves in the world than any other country, yet we aren’t drilling. Imagine how our quality of life would improve if we as a nation were energy independent.
