Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market. Ed delivers intelligent radio with unique, witty and irreverent flair.
This week, Ed opens the show by comparing President Obama to President Bush – not George W. Bush, but 41st president George H.W. Bush. After playing President Bush’s famed and beloved “thousand points of light” speech from 1988 as he vied for the Republican nomination, Ed addresses the differences between the two presidents – not only in the way they governed, but in the way President Bush spoke to the American public vs. the way President Obama does. Ed’s conclusion is that Obama’s claim to have “heard” the American people last week is disingenuous.
Next, Ed discusses the possibility that the backwards environmental policies of the Chinese government are polluting American skies, as evidenced by the pollution that was visible from the air as he recently traveled to Hawaii. “So we’re going to reduce our greenhouse gases while China continues to pollute,” Ed says. “Obama has agreed to turn off the coal industry for the Chinese and we’re going to reduce our greenhouse gases, in exchange for what? The Chinese have to be saying, ‘What a moron. Is this the best they have?’”
In regards to the President’s forthcoming executive action on amnesty for illegal immigrants, Ed believes it is a partial smokescreen designed to give off the impression that last week’s election didn’t mean anything. “He has to do something for the people who don’t vote and don’t pay attention, because the ones that do are already paying attention and they don’t like what they see,” Ed says. The first step in the process of reforming immigration, Ed says, is to seal the borders – much like the first solution to most medicals problem is to stop the bleeding. He contrasts the President’s approach to immigration with the common sense approaches of 2012 Republican presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain, both of whom advocated sealing the border first – a policy that would have prevented an executive action like the one Americans are about to be victimized by.
Fortunately, Congress has once again passed a bill that would allow the Keystone XL pipeline project to move forward. Now that Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) is competing in a runoff election to save her Senate seat, the Democrats who still control the Senate until January 1 are likely to allow the bill to move forward simply because it is politically expedient for their party. Either way, the Keystone XL pipeline will create thousands of American jobs and that is the #1 reason it should be supported.
Then, the big story of the week: recently released video of Affordable Care Act architect Jonathan Gruber discussing the “stupidity” of the American people. Check back this Wednesday to read Ed’s weekly opinion column; he will discuss his thoughts on Gruber, Nancy Pelosi attempting to distance herself from him and the media’s dilemma on how to handle this unforeseen “oops” in the Democrat’s narrative.
On this week’s show, you’ll also hear:
10 more executive actions the President is believed to be considering
