Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday Morning at 9:30 on AM590

Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market. Ed delivers intelligent radio with unique, witty and irreverent flair.

Ed invites you to listen to his Thanksgiving show this week, where you can receive pointers on giving input to family members who may not always agree with you politically. “You might be worried about starting fights,” Ed says. “Don’t be, because they need to hear the truth.”

One topic Ed suggests for Thanksgiving dinner debates is Jonathan Gruber, the economist that was hired by the administration to help write the Affordable Care Act, and was recently found on video bragging about fooling the “stupid” American voters who were duped by the badly written law. “Jonathan Gruber is not the bad guy,” Ed says. “This guy’s telling the truth; the American voter is stupid. If you take the time out of your life to vote, obviously you care about this country – but so many people who vote don’t take it seriously enough to read up on anything or vet any of the candidates. So yes, people are stupid.”

Ed’s guest this week is Beth Baumann, a locally-based communications professional who has worked on multiple political campaigns and helped produce the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in 2014, before joining the nationally known conservative women’s media outlet PolitiChicks. In light of the President’s executive action on immigration Thursday night, Ed and Beth discuss the repercussions of allowing up to 5 million illegal immigrants to stay in the United States with the stroke of the President’s pen.

“It wasn’t really immigration reform, it wasn’t really amnesty, and it wasn’t really much of anything,” Ed says. Of the President’s claim that his stipulation that his action only applies to immigrants who have been in the United States for at least five years, Ed replies, “How are you going to know how long they’ve been here? If they’re illegal, there’s no proof!”

Beth, who attended the protests in Murrieta that took place in July as busses of illegal immigrant youths were taken into town to be processed, explained that there is a little-known fact about the border patrol station where they were detained. “The station is a corridor for drug trafficking,” she said “It’s not meant to be a long-term holding facility.” She also pointed out that for many of the protestors, the unsuitability of converting the station into lodging for immigrant children was also a concern. “They were concerned about the safety and well-being of these kids,” Beth says. “But their first concern was their own kids getting diseases once these kids would be released.” After the President’s executive action, she says, there will be more protests in Murrieta over the coming weeks. “They’re going to start protesting outside the border patrol station again,” she said. “This was the last straw.”
