Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market. Ed delivers intelligent radio with unique, witty and irreverent flair.
This week’s show is even more lively and spirited than usual as Ed welcomes special guest Lou Desmond, host of The Lou Desmond Show on AM590. They discuss the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri in the aftermath of the grand jury’s decision that Officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted for killing Michael Brown. “We saw what we expected to see,” Ed says. “It’s okay to defend yourself if you’re a cop and someone is trying to come at you.”
In regards to the vandalism taking place in the hours after the decision was announced, Lou says, “I don’t see the allure of throwing rocks and windows and burning down stores. If you live in Ferguson, now you don’t have anywhere to shop.” He likens it unto the damage done after the Los Angeles riots in 1993. “There are still whole swaths of places in LA where there’s nowhere to shop because they were destroyed in the riots,” he said. “That’s what Ferguson is going to be now.” In terms of local response, Ed comments on demonstrations that reportedly took place at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont.
Ed will also reflect on some “Twitter wars” he found himself caught up in, after he implied that Michael Brown’s parents did not raise him properly. “Someone called me a sick (expletive),” Ed says. “I want to say to people, respectfully: I lost my own brother, so I am not totally unfeeling. But Darren Wilson’s life is worth just as much as Michael Brown’s, and if Michael Brown was coming at him, then he had a job to do.”
Ed and Lou will also dissect President Obama’s address after the decision, wherein he asked those who disagreed to protest “peacefully.” Implying that the President’s speech defeated its own purpose because it had no effect on violent protestors, Lou says, “They had a split screen to show the President speaking, and the riots happening at the same time.”
He points blame at “race hustlers” like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, for whom the perceived “institutional racism” in the United States can never end. Of the fact that Al Sharpton routinely visits the White House and enjoys an advisor role to the administration, Ed says, “Do you think if I had $4.5 million in unpaid back taxes, I’d be allowed anywhere near the White House?” Furthermore, Al Sharpton is given a prime slot on MSNBC, all the more reinforcing the vice grip that Democrats have on the media and vice versa.
On this show, you’ll also hear:
– Lou’s thoughts on the President’s executive action on immigration
– Ed’s thoughts on the GOP’s next moves, now that the balance of power has shifted
– Critiques of gerrymandering, which Ed and Lou believe to be an eradication of truly competitive elections
