This week, Ed begins the show with audio from the 2006 film “Flight 93,” in which the FAA Operations Manager at the time, Ben Sliney, made a definitive decision to stop all flights until more was known about the crisis at hand on September 11, 2001. He contrasts this with our current government’s response to the Ebola crisis, which lacks the decisiveness that ruled the day on 9/11. Ed continues to question why the White House is not ordering all flights in and out of Ebola-affected areas like Liberia, Sierra Leon and Guinea to be suspended. “Five airports announced they are going to have an Ebola screening when you come in from western Africa,” Ed says. “That’s nice, but you can have Ebola and not have any symptoms for 21 days.”
“I don’t mean to make light of it,” Ed says. “This is dead serious, no pun intended.”
A letter from the Riverside County Department of Public Health is read on air, which Ed critiques with his trademark wit. The letter states that the county has participated in conference calls with the Centers for Disease Control and contacts from the White House. Ed quips, “Isn’t that comforting?”
President Obama and Vice President Biden were both in Southern California for fundraising events this week, to which Ed says, “They’re both fundraising, and neither of them is running for anything. Neither of them is working, either.” During Joe Biden’s visit, a crew from Jimmy Kimmel Live did man-on-the-street interviews with people who admitted to not knowing who Joe Biden is; Ed plays the audio on air so listeners can relive the hottest segment on TV this week, which was equal parts amusement and embarrassment. Next, there’s audio from a Biden rally in Oregon on Wednesday, which features a teenager gushing over the Vice President and calling him “super-duper-cool,” in addition to saying that he “doesn’t get as much credit” as he should and stating emphatically that she will vote for him “by the time the election thing happens.”
“This is our future, folks,” Ed says, and he encourages parents to talk about politics with their children – despite the fact that they have been told talking politics isn’t polite.

“If we privatized every department in the federal government,” Ed says, “that may change the way we spent money.” He also comments on the Secret Service scandals currently in play, which seem to be getting more intriguing with new details on misbehaviors and cover-ups revealed every week.
In terms of local real estate, Ed continues to encourage potential buyers to act now, making sure that they do not choose a real estate agent who is double-dipping as a lender.
