UC Riverside Health will undergo a major expansion that will include an outpatient diagnostics center.
The project, announced June 3 during an on-campus gathering, will cover 21 acres at Valley Springs Parkway and Gateway Drive in Riverside, with the possibility of future expansion, according to a statement on the university’s website.
“This day is about celebrating a future,” said UC Riverside chancellor Kim Wilcox during the event that attracted more than 100 people. “We’re announcing a signed letter of intent to build a robust medical center complex, right here on this spot.”
“The longer-term hope is a teaching hospital of the type that will make a mark in America, just like our sister campuses have done with their medical centers.”
UCR Health is the healthcare provider branch of the UC Riverside School of Medicine. The medical school opened in 2013, graduated its first class in 2017, and now sees an estimated 45,000 a patients a year.
In the fall 2023, the medical school completed its largest expansion to date when it opened a 95,400-square-foot education building. That has allowed the school to grow its classes from 80 to 125 students, according to the statement.
