Cynthia K. Larive has been appointed interim provost at UC Riverside.
Larive currently serves as vice provost for undergraduate education and was previously interim dean of the school’s College of Natural & Agricultural Sciences, according to statement.
She replaces Paul D’Anieri, who stepped down in December as UC Riverside’s Academic Senate was preparing a no-confidence vote against him.
Larive’s appointment was announced by UC Riverside Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox.
“I can think of few members of the UCR faculty who are as respected as Cindy Larive,” Wilcox said in the statement. “That she was nominated enthusiastically by so many of her peers speaks volumes about the impact she has had on our research, teaching and service missions.”
Larive joined UC Riverside’s faculty in 2005 as a chemistry professor. She served as chair of that department through the 2012-’13 academic year, then served as divisional dean for physical and mathematical sciences through last year.
The search for a permanent provost will continue for the next several months, according to the statement.
