UC Riverside has been declared an Innovation & Economic Prosperity university by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.
The IEP designation is awarded to public research universities that support economic development through innovation and entrepreneurship, according to a statement on the university’s website.
UC Riverside is the 80th university to be granted an IEP designation.
“We join a select group of universities in the nation, including our sister campuses of UC Davis, UCLA, and UC San Diego,” said Rodolfo Torres, UC Riverside’s vice chancellor for research and economic development, in the statement. “UCR is already recognized by our regional stakeholders as an engine for innovation and economic prosperity in Inland Southern California. It is great to be recognized by our peer universities in APLU.”
The designation can be re-certified every five years, according to the statement.
