UPS plans to hire between 90,000 and 95,000 seasonal workers across the country during the upcoming holiday shopping season, the company has announced.
Package volume is expected to increase beginning in November and last through January 2016, according to a company statement released Tuesday.
The company will hire full and part-time positions for the Christmas rush, most of which will be package handlers, drivers, and driver assistants. Those jobs have long been a way for people to land a full-time position with UPS, according to the statement.
UPS operates a cargo terminal at Ontario International Airport and several customer service centers in the Inland region.
Overall, holiday hiring should be strong this year, said Jordan Levine, economist and director of economic research with Beacon Economics in Los Angeles.
“Employment is up, corporate profits are up and inflation is low,” Levine said. “We expect to see a strong amount of [seasonal] hiring in all sectors this year.”
