Victorville has opened its first permanent animal care and animal adoption center.
Located on the former site of Goodwill High School, the city is leasing the site at 16648 E St. in Old Town Victorville from the the Victor Valley Union High School District, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Besides housing and caring for animals, the 15,000-square-foot facility will host education fairs and vaccine, microchip, and licensing events.
During its first phase, the city plans to house at least 135 dogs, 40 cats and some reptiles. It also plans to build about 200 more kennels and add a veterinarian suite, a livestock area and improve access to the facility.
Victorville officials began working on a new kennel in May 2023, when its shelter operator announced it would suspend operations.
