Victorville has opened Fire Station 315, a project more than 13 years in the making.
City officials and local dignitaries held a ribbon-cutting earlier this month, about one month after the facility at 12820 Eucalyptus St. was put into use, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Then-Fire Chief Rudy Cabriales and Operations Chief John Becker began pushing for a fire station in that part of the city more than 13 years ago. Both believed there would be much housing built in that part of the city, which proved to be true.
Construction was completed in 2009, but the Great Recession kept the city from opening the station. Revenue from Measure P, the one-cent sales tax approved by Victorville voters in November, made the opening possible.
“We are quite excited to begin fulfilling our promise to invest Measure P revenue to increase essential services and build a stronger Victorville,” said Victorville Mayor, Debra Jones. “Today, it’s Fire Station 315. Soon, it will be the expansion of our police, code enforcement, animal care and control, and library services that are sure to have a lasting, positive impact on our city.”
Measure P is expected to generate nearly $19 million this fiscal year, according to the statement.
