Victorville is scheduled to break ground April 20 on its Wellness Center Campus for homeless people.
The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., will be held at the northeast corner of Eva Dell Park, near the construction site at 16902 First St., according to a statement on the city’s website.
The wellness center will be the first facility of its kind in San Bernardino County. It will include a recuperative care facility, medical clinic, interim housing and support services that will help homeless people, and people at risk of becoming homeless.
It will have 110 units, a minimum of 170 beds and will include community space, a dog kennel, community garden and recreational courts. The housing units and support service buildings will cover nearly 26,000 square feet.
Construction is expected to be completed in December. Most of the project will be paid for with a $28 million grant the city received from California’s Homekey Grant program, which is administered by the state Department of Housing and Community Development.
